You are in nursing school and are assigned with a research paper. One of the requirements of the research paper is that it is supposed to be formatted in APA.

APA is an acronym standing for the American Psychological Association. The difference between APA format and the format of other papers is that APA papers are notable in the behavioral sciences, education, and social sciences.

While researching your nursing report, write down important information on note cards. Your notes can range from quotations to sentences and paragraphs. Paraphrase the information in your nursing research paper so that you will not be accused of plagiarism. Write down the resource of your notes to use at the end of the research paper in the reference section.

After you are finished reading and investigating material for your research paper, begin writing your rough draft. Print your nursing research paper on 8.5” by 11” paper with 1” margins on all sides. You need to double space the entire research paper. The fonts you should use are 12-point Times New Roman or Courier (serif typeface). Figure labels need to use 12-point Arial, Helvetica, or any sans serif typeface.

In the method section, present information so that the reader can repeat your experiment. Separate the section into three categories: participants, materials, and procedures. In the participants section, discuss how you selected the participants, the amount of the participants you selected, and the separation of participants in each sample. In the materials section, tell about the tools that you used. For the procedure, make sure that you outlined your research paper.

The results provide a summary of the statistics and data you incorporated into your paper. You should place tables and data in this section.

For your discussion page, begin with a statement which contradicts or supports your original hypothesis. If others have performed similar research, compare and contrast their research with yours. Provide a statement on your conclusions.

When you are studying psychology in your undergraduate years at a college or university, you may have to write a case study. A case study thoroughly analyses a person’s condition. Case studies are typically performed in clinical cases or in places where lab research is not possible or realistic. If you are an undergraduate student, your case studies may be based on a real person, an imaginary person, or a fictional character from a book, film, or television show.

A case study’s format can differ significantly, depending upon the instructor. A typical case study consists of a Title Page, Case Study, and References. The case study will focus on the key individual of interest. The case history report is divided into two parts: case history and intervention.

Your case study should be 8.5” by 11” inches with 1” inch margins. Your case study’s title should be short and be in between ten to twelve words. Center the title near the top of the page in sentence case. On a new line type your first name, middle initial, and last name. If you are named “Jr.” or “III,” put a space between the last name and the suffix. For the next new line of your case study, enter the name of your college or university where you conducted research. If you don’t have a research institution, you can list the city and state where you conducted the research for your project. If you are researching outside of the United States, list your city, province, and the country.

First, with case history, give the client’s background information. Give information variables such as age, gender, health status, family mental health history, family and social relationships, drug and alcohol history, life struggles, goals and coping skills, and weaknesses.

Second, explain the symptoms or problems that the client has, such as physical, emotional, or sensory symptoms. Emotions, thinking patterns, and viewpoints connected to the symptoms should be noted. Diagnostic testing or screening should be explained in detail and all scores reported.

Third, give the diagnosis and determine the appropriate DSM-IV code. Give details on how you arrived at your diagnosis, and how the client’s symptoms fit the diagnostic criteria for the disorders or any possible difficulties in getting a diagnosis.

The second part of your paper needs to center upon the intervention used to assist the client. There are three approaches: Psychoanalytic, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Humanistic.

First, the psychoanalytic approach is how a psychoanalytic therapist would see the client’s problem. Show some background information by citing some sources on the psychoanalytic approach. Explain how psychoanalytic approach can help your client, how the client can respond to the treatment, and how effective the treatment is.

Second, provide information on cognitive-behavioral therapy and describe the treatment sessions, client response and outcome of the treatment. Note any difficulties or successes made by the client during this treatment.

Third, for a humanistic approach, give information on how the client reacts to this type of treatment. Give details on the type of treatment you chose, the client’s reaction to the treatment, and the end results. Discuss why the treatment was successful or unsuccessful.
