Climatic changes may refer to a change in average weather conditions. Climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes, variations in solar radiation received by Earth, plate tectonics, and volcanic eruptions. Certain human activities have also been identified as significant causes of recent climate change, often referred to as global warming (Wikipedia). This article discusses at length the effects of these climatic changes.
Extreme weather events. Extreme weather patterns such as El Nino can lead to adverse changes in the environment such as temperature fluctuations and flash floods.
Diseases. Diseases such as malaria can be increase as a result of climatic changes. Increased precipitation can increase mosquito population indirectly by expanding larval habitat. Malaria kills approximately 300,000 children annually, poses an imminent threat through temperature increase. (Speybroeck, 2011)
Water. Climate change has a negative impact on water resources and freshwater ecosystems. As the climate warms, it changes the nature of global rainfall, evaporation, and other factors that affect water supply and quality. Specific impacts include: warmer water temperatures affect water quality and accelerate water pollution; this reduces the amount of freshwater available for drinking and farming.
Displacement and migration. Climate change causes displacement of people through the increased number and severity of weather-related disasters which destroy homes causing people to seek shelter or livelihoods elsewhere. Effects of climate change such as desertification and rising sea levels gradually force communities to abandon traditional homelands for more accommodating environments. Deteriorating environments triggered by climate change can also lead to increased conflict over resources which in turn can displace people.
Climatic changes have far much adverse effects and it’s the duty of each and every individual to protect especially the environment for the purpose of eliminating these changes or at very least their reducing them.
